A major milestone was achieved through the MoU Signing Ceremony between WWF Thailand, Surat Thani Municipality, and partnered junk shops on 16 October 2025 at the Surat Thani Municipality Office under the The Coca Cola Foundation – Informal Waste Pickers (TCCF-IWPs) initiative. We were honoured to have Mr. Hasachai Rueangnui, Deputy Mayor of Surat Thani Municipality, participate in the MoU signing ceremony. In addition, the collaboration aims to promote a systematic and sustainable waste management system, ensuring that registered informal waste pickers receive improved welfare, recognition, and well-being.

This event also marked an honorary learning opportunity for Trang City Municipality, whose representatives joined the visit to observe Surat Thani Municipality’s best practices in waste management. As part of the program, participants visited partnered junk shops, recognized as front runners of the TCCF-IWPs project. These junk shops actively promote the collection and recycling of low-value waste materials, such as milk cartons and low-value plastics, and play a vital role in encouraging among informal waste pickers.
Furthermore, the visit provided valuable on-site learning experiences for the Trang City Municipality staff. They engaged in fruitful discussions with junk shop owners, exchanging insights and innovative ideas that could be adapted to strengthen their own municipal waste management plans. Their proactive approach and commitment to collaboration with informal waste pickers demonstrate strong potential for sustainable development in their community.
