Background

    WWF-Thailand is initiating a new program that combines our efforts to preserve biodiversity and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The Smart Ranger Station Program, funded by WWF China, will collaborate with Thailand Department of National Parks, Wildlife, and Plant Conservation to install solar electrification at 30 or more Department of National Parks, Wildlife, and Plant Conservation facilities (largely remote ranger stations) in up to seven Forest Complexes in western Thailand.

    Major Duties and Responsibilities

      • Develop and implement workplans consistent with program objectives and the WWF Thailand 5-year strategy.
      • Select and coordinate solar installation contractor(s)
      • Supervise other contractors as needed.
      • Maintain positive program relationships with Thailand Department of National Parks, Wildlife, and Plant Protection and other government agencies as needed; design and lead related meetings and workshops as needed.
      • Ensure timely completion of permitting and reporting requirements of Thailand government agencies.
      • Monitor deadlines and tangible achievements.
      • Manage the budget with the Conservation and Finance departments to guarantee financial accountability and transparency in the program budget.
      • Ensure effective communication and coordination between all program partners and stakeholders.
      • Work with the M&E Manager to develop and implement monitoring and evaluation frameworks to track program impact and progress.
      • Work closely with the ESSF Manager in identifying potential risks to the program and developing mitigation strategies.
      • Prepare comprehensive reports on program activities, outcomes, and lessons learned for internal and external stakeholders.
      • Travel routinely to installation sites across western Thailand.

      Required Qualifications

      • Bachelor’s degree or higher  degree in conservation, forestry, natural resource management or related fields, or equivalent professional experience in a conservation organization.
      • 1-3 years as program manager of a complex project with several team  members.
      • Experience in the full project management cycle, from proposal development and program design to implementation to monitoring.
      • Experience in adhering to WWF safeguards, risk, and inclusion policies.
      • Ability to work with Thailand DNP at multiple levels, from frontline rangers to senior decision-makers.
      • Demonstrated organizational and financial expertise.
      • Strong familiarity with governmental and non-governmental conservation initiatives and challenges in Thailand.
      • Fluency in Thai and English.
      • Note: Technical operations under this program will be undertaken by expert installers; the Program Manager is not requited to have expertise in this field but will be expected to develop a general understanding of the technical specifications/benefits/capabilities of solar electric equipment in order to communicate with donors, WWF staff, and the media.

      Working Relationships

      Internal: WWF-Thailand Conservation, Finance, and Communications staff, as well as WWF Asia Pacific specialists and WWF-Network donor offices (WWF China).

      External: Thailand Department of National Parks, Wildlife, and Plant Conservation leaders and local staff; other governmental permitting agencies as determined.
