Local Consultant for Tree Nursery ManagementForest Forward Project – Kaeng Krung National Park

  1. Background
    The Forest Forward Project aims to restore degraded forest landscapes and promote
    sustainable land management through active community participation. As part of the
    project, a tree nursery has been established at Kaeng Krung National Park to support
    reforestation and ecosystem restoration activities.
    To ensure the effective operation and management of the nursery, WWF Thailand seeks to
    engage a Local Consultant to oversee the day-to-day management of the nursery and
    ensure that nursery operations are implemented efficiently and in line with the project’s
    objectives.
  2. Objectives
    The objectives of this consultancy are to:
  • Manage and maintain the tree nursery to ensure its efficient and sustainable
    operation.
  • Oversee the propagation, maintenance, and care of tree seedlings to ensure they
    are healthy and ready for reforestation activities.
  • Supervise nursery operations, including seed collection, seed germination, seedling
    transplantation, irrigation, pest and disease management, and general nursery
    maintenance.
  • Support the implementation of reforestation activities under the Forest Forward
    Project in Kaeng Krung National Park.
  • Coordinate closely with Kaeng Krung National Park staff and WWF Thailand to
    ensure that nursery operations are aligned with the project’s work plan and
    objectives.

3. Scope of Work
The Local Consultant will be responsible for the following tasks:

    • Carry out the daily operation and maintenance of the tree nursery, including
      watering, weeding, and pest control.
    • Collect seeds and conduct seed processing, germination, seedling propagation,
      and transplantation.
    • Prepare growing media, improve soil conditions, apply fertilizers, and implement
      disease prevention and control measures to promote healthy seedling growth.
    • Monitor seedling growth and maintain accurate records of nursery stock, including
      the number, species, and condition of seedlings.
    • Maintain nursery infrastructure, including shade houses, irrigation systems, and
      nursery beds, to ensure they remain in good working condition.
    • Support WWF Thailand staff and Kaeng Krung National Park officials in
      implementing reforestation activities, including transporting seedlings and assisting
      with other field activities in accordance with the project work plan.
    • Coordinate with Kaeng Krung National Park staff and WWF Thailand in preparing and
      distributing seedlings for reforestation activities.
    • Identify, report, and resolve operational issues related to nursery management in a
      timely and appropriate manner.

    4. Deliverables
    The consultant is expected to provide the following deliverables:

    1. Monthly progress reports summarizing nursery operations, including seedling
      growth, challenges encountered, and corrective actions taken.
    2. A database of native tree species, seed sources, and nursery propagation
      schedules.
    3. Regular reports on the availability and readiness of seedlings for reforestation
      activities.

    5. Duration and Duty Station

    • The consultancy period will be 11 months, with the possibility of extension based
      on performance and project requirements.
    • The consultant will be based at Kaeng Krung National Park and will work closely
      with park officials and WWF Thailand representatives.

    6. Required Qualifications and Experience
    The successful candidate should possess the following qualifications:

      • Experience in tree nursery management, forest nursery operations, forestry, or other
        related fields.
      • No gender or educational qualifications are required.
      • Age between 21 and 60 years.
      • Physically fit and able to work in field conditions.
      • Previous experience in tree seedling propagation and nursery management will be
        an advantage.
      • Responsible, disciplined, patient, hardworking, and well organized.
      • Male applicants must have completed military service or be legally exempt.
      • Knowledge of native tree species and their ecological importance.
      • Good planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
      • Demonstrated experience in day-to-day nursery operations, including irrigation,
        pest and disease management, and seedling transplantation.
