Background

The Forest Landscape Restoration and Sustainable Food Systems Fund (FLR349) is a project that applies His Majesty the King’s philosophy of “Three Types of Forests, Four Benefits,” and the creation of sustainable food value chains as a model for farmers in upstream watershed areas. The FLR349 project provides guidance to farmers by helping them shift from monoculture farming—which often encroaches forests and relies heavily on chemical inputs leading to soil degradation—toward integrated farming based on the “Three Types of Forests, Four Benefits” concept. The aim is to restore forests, promote sustainable livelihoods, and encourage safe food production by supporting farmers to plant forest trees, utility trees, and food crops such as perennial fruits and herbs suited to the local ecosystem and climate.

Currently, the FLR349 project in Kong Khaek Sub-district, Mae Chaem District, Chiang Mai, has over 80 participating farmers, with more than 330 rai of land under project supervision. These areas are spread across six villages: Baan Kong Khaek Nuea, Baan Om Meng, Baan Kong Khaek Tai, Ban Om Khud, Baan Pha Phueng, and Baan Na Yang Din. Most farmers communicate more fluently in local dialects than in standard Thai. To ensure smooth coordination and effective implementation of FLR349 activities, it is necessary to recruit a vendor to collect plant species and socioeconomic data with farmers in Mae Chaem District, Chiang Mai Province.
