1. Background of consultancy assignment
Even though forest restoration has been implemented for many years, techniques and species selection is often inadequate to site specific needs. Proper restoration techniques are fundamental for ecosystem rehabilitation, to improve or enhance forest conditions, and to restore ecosystem services for supporting wildlife. Tree planting activity is an intensive task that often is implemented in very remote areas and requires large labour capacities. Since the protected area office do not have such capabilities, it is necessary to work with a managing group that could organize activities and labour in loco.
2. Objective of the consultancy
The consultant will organize tree planting activities and matching labour requirements, acquire appropriate tree species and quantities to be able to restore agreed areas. The total seedlings requirements for the planting operation will need the acquisition of about 27,000 trees of mixed native/indigenous species. The consultant will also undertake aftercare activities such as fertilizing and weeding, as suggested in the outputs.
