1. Background of consultancy assignment
Even though forest restoration has been implemented for many years, techniques and species selection is often inadequate to site specific needs. Proper restoration techniques are fundamental for ecosystem rehabilitation, to improve or enhance forest conditions, and to restore ecosystem services for supporting wildlife.
2. Objective of the consultancy
The consultant will provide training session for DNP staff on the development and management of a tree nursery. Participants will learn how to efficiently construct and run a nursery for seedlings production, and how to grow appropriate good quality seedlings.
3. Scope of work/ Major responsibility
The consultant will conduct all activities in coordination with WWF Thailand on:
3.1 To teach how to efficiently construct a tree nursery for seedlings production and all the tools and equipment needed, including preferred media and polybag size for best root development.
3.2 To provide knowledge on best practices on: seeds collection, extraction and treatments, germination, potting and pest control.
3.3 To provide knowledge on: tree planting, maintenance and monitoring of forest trees

2 Phenology – data collection. Seed collection. Voucher specimens. The recipients will understand more about tree phenology, which seeds to collect and when, and how to store specimens 25-27 July
3 Seeds extraction and treatments. Germination – setting up germination tests. Potting (hands on). Grading, root pruning, pest control. The recipients will learn how to treat seeds depending on their characteristics. How to improve germination, transplanting, potting and seedlings management 25-27 July
4 Project planning The recipients will learn how to plan and manage forest restoration activities 25-27 July
5. Required profile: Knowledge/Expertise:
· Knowledge and expertise on nursery development for tree seedlings production
· Knowledge on growth and management of native tree production
· Knowledge of forest restoration techniques and species diversity
· Knowledge on forest types and different forest habitats
· Knowledge on tree planting, maintenance and monitoring
Experiences:
· Experience on conducting such training for participants like: local communities, DNP, RFD and private businesses
